University of Calabria

The University of Calabria (Unical, www.unical.it) is a public institution established in the academic year 1972/73. It is located in Arcavacata di Rende (Cosenza). It is a medium size university with about 40.000 students and it has six Faculties.

Unical, through the structure of the "Liaison Office d'Ateneo" (lio.unical.it) , constituted in 2003, creates a connection between itself, the enterprises and the surrounding area. The activities of this office realized by the staff (with the support of the different Faculties and Departments) include:

• Promotion and Valorisation of Research and TT ( Patents and IPR in general, Research activities, Spin Off, Start-up);
• Front Office: information about regional, national and EC financing (publishing documents, newsletter, advices, etc)
• Support during the drawing up of the project;
• Analysis and Research Activities (analysis of Technological Innovation Demand of the Enterprises);
• Regional and Inter-Regional Networking (Partner Research with: Trade Associations, Research Centres, European Network of IRC and APRE.
• In 2003-2004, Liaison Office carried out the initiative "Action ORU-05" within the framework of the Project "ORACOLO", financed by European Social Fund, about the support of start up of innovative enterprises, diffusion of entrepreneurial culture in technical scientific matters and of the research valorisation.
• Unical is the coordinating institution. It manages and takes part in all day-to-day project activities. Unical belongs to the Italian network for research valorisation (NetVal) and will be actively involved with valorisation of project's results particularly those associated with Universities, Liaison Offices and TTOs.
